They’re giving away these odd looking glasses at the Rotterdam Zoo to prevent eye-contact with the animals. Some animals, such as gorillas could respond aggressively if someone were to make eye-contact with them.

why not just sunglasses? how are you supposed to see out of these “no eye-contact” glasses…? it’s wonderful not to be mauled by animals at the zoo, but it would also be nice to see them 🙂
err, I don’t know of any zoos that allow you to wander around in the animal enclosures. This was to prevent stress for the animals, not maulings. Also, these glasses are incapable of making DIRECT eye contact, as it would be more of a peripheral view.
wouldnt regular glasses work better…? what if there’s a gorilla off to the side of you that you’re not even looking at and it thinks you are and decides to eat your face?
…what if… we just covered our eyes with regular sunglasses..? *GASP*
Many thousands of visitors were previously torn to pieces by stressed animals before these glasses were introduced. An end to the blood bath at last. Visiting the zoo may now actually be pleasant for both human and beast alike. What a relief!!
What a great idea. This should be available in other zoos too so people can watch the animals without causing them stress. Just staring at an animal can make it stressed out, they might interpret our gaze as a threat. This is brilliant.

Make your own! But be careful not to make eye contact with yourself while doing it.

What a great party theme, a “I’m disinterested” party. Can we order them online?
